The Story...

  • Artie Bryson came to Venice to finish her PhD. Five years later the PhD still isn’t done, but life is okay. Leading guided tours of the magnificent city pays the bills. The days are all the same — until she seeks respite from the summer swelter in the Casino di Venezia cabaret.

Nikki Velvet has finally found her musical niche singing Postcards from America in a solo tour across Europe. Her bluesy, jazzy, sultry voice brings Artie back the next night. And the next…

The two Americans find they have a lot in common, but Nicki’s gig in Venice ends in two short weeks. Not long enough for anything more than a bit of fun, right? One very old coin knows otherwise.

Welcome to Venice, a city like no other, where a touch of old magic can create a new future in this long novella full of music and desire, plus one very old coin.

The Coin of Love SeriesWomen discover the magic they need to find the love they deserve.

Author's Notes
  • Like Artie Bryson, I don’t believe there is any other place on the planet like Venice. Other cities are older, or larger, or equally as encrusted with art and history. Venice, however lives on the edge of extinction, and all of its art, from music to sculpture, paintings to architecture, was created knowing full well any day the sea could take it all. And still could. I hope you enjoy this visit to Venice through the eyes of Artie and Nikki.

A number of Venetian locations, music, and art pieces are mentioned throughout. Nearly all are real and can be seen or heard with a quick search. Artie’s and Nikki’s mutual idols, Veronica Franco and Josephine Baker, are both real. Yes, Baker was a resistance member and really did write German troop intelligence information on her musical scores in invisible ink. That is next level badassery.

The idea for this series came to me all in a flash when I saw an old coin on display at a museum in Rome. At first glance I thought the figureheads were two women. That was simply magical to me! Who would make such a coin, and what was it made for? What would it bring to someone who carried such a gift? Love, of course, because duh, romance writer. The rush of possibilities became the outline for the entire Coin of Love Series.
