Making Books, Telling Stories – GCLS 2023

Karin Kallmaker Craft of Writing, Events and Appearances 3 Comments

I am on the road to my favorite event of the year: The Golden Crown Literary Society Conference. This year it’s in Denver, a city I really enjoy. There will be fun and friends, learning and laughter, ideas and awards! Even if you’re not going, you can see the awards via livestream (see below).

Where I’ll Be in 2023!

I’ll be at all the usual sessions, like the welcome reception on Wednesday 6/28, awards, keynote presentation, etc. In addition, I’m either a panelist or moderating at these sessions:

Thursday 6/29

You can catch me talking about Writing Nonbinary Characters with Rachel Spangler, Jaime Clevenger, and Finnian Burnett, moderated by Aurora Rey. Thursday 6/29 at 1pm in meeting room Denver 1-3.

Friday 6/30, It’s a Busy Day!

Reading from Knight of Nights at 9am with other readers Ann Roberts, Brooke Campbell, E. J. Noyes, Karen D. Badger, and Lynn Ames, while Carleen Spry tries to keep us on time. Heh. In meeting room Colorado D.

At 11am I’ll be the one trying to keep a semblance of order in the annual So I Had This Idea panel featuring Nan Campbell, Carol Anne Douglas, Kat Jackson, Morgan Lee Miller, TJ O’Shea, and Ana K. Wrenn. They’re going to talk about how an idea became a book. Thank you Katherine Rupley for sponsoring! In meeting room Denver 4-6.

At 3pm really savvy marketing peeps Kris Bryant, Kate Castle, Miranda MacLeod, Krystina Rivers, and Anne Shade, along with not so savvy me, will be talking about Branding and Taglines. I’ll be taking lots of notes! Lynn Ames will be keeping order as moderator. In meeting room Denver 4-6.

Saturday 7/1

Saturday at 1:30 is the Author Signing! Those of you who pre-ordered books for me to sign, that’s when to pick them up from me and have a chat.

That evening is the Goldie Awards, which is livestreaming for the first time this year via the Golden Crown YouTube channel. Here’s the link to follow: https://bit.ly/GCLS23GOLD

All too soon it’ll be time for Sunday breakfast and the Kiss and Cry goodbyes. I’m not going to think about that until then.

Overall, phew! As a friend says, it’s happy wiggle time because it’s going to be a blast. I hope I see you there!
