It’s worth reading the notes at the end of the book to learn a little more about Kallmaker’s inspiration and a rumination on the beginning of lesbian fiction.

“I have enjoyed the view that Kallmaker gives us into different periods through these books. Although people hold up the 1950s as being idyllic – I personally think that the lack of autonomy women had is horrifying and that being a housewife would have been torture. Kallmaker does an excellent job of giving us a vignette of that world and also allowing her protagonist to find somewhere different, a small town that has changed the norms and created a more inclusive community. It’s worth reading the notes at the end of the book to learn a little more about Kallmaker’s inspiration and a rumination on the beginning of lesbian fiction.” – J. Ham at Kindle
