Writing a Book – Mowing the Lawn

Karin Kallmaker Craft of Writing

I  had the pleasure this year of hearing Garrison Keillor speak at Zellerbach Hall in Berkeley earlier this year.

He seemed in a nostalgic mood, singing wistful love songs in addition to pondering on the magic of past loves and his long-term love affair with the beautiful Bay Area.

The quip above was almost an aside, but I have thought of it often. Writing a book is sometimes much like mowing the lawn. Thank goodness, however, that it can be a mystical experience just often enough to keep me feeling the magic.
