I know that some people mean it pejoratively when they say uber or fanfic, just as some mean it pejoratively when they say romance. I’d like to go on record that if I use those terms I’m only trying to clarify the landscape in question, not create unbreachable boundaries or imply tribal hierarchies.
Some writers, especially new ones, are wary of being “branded” by a label that excludes her from one market or the other. To them, my advice is write LOTS.
To a blog title that says romance novels are “primed” to make an impact on society, I would add “yet again.” Applauding the “new” wave of romance writing.
Stupid, silly, trashy, sappy… It’s “just” a romance after all. How about we stop shaming our readers and our own work?
